Glasgow Memory Clinic are currently looking for people to take part in their Genes and Alzheimer’s Clinical Study. We know there is a link between the two things, but we need your help to better understand the relationship.
There are many different factors involved in whether you will get Alzheimer’s or not. These include age, family history and genetics – all are factors we have no control over. Research has shown that Genetics impact the risk of Alzheimer’s so by taking part in our study, you would find out whether you have the E gene (AP0E-e4) which increases your chances of getting dementia in later life.
About the study
The Generation (or Genes & Alzheimer’s) Study will last for 5-8 years and will test potential new investigational treatments, which may be able to prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s.
To test these new investigational treatments, we are looking for individuals who have not been diagnosed with any memory impairment but have a specific form of a gene that can increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s.
Only with your help will we be able to discover if these investigational treatments are effective.
Do you qualify for this study? You must
- Be 60 to 75 years old
- Have not been diagnosed with any memory impairments
If you answer yes to both questions and if you then pass our short list of pre-screening questions, you will need a quick cheek swab test. After which we will know whether you are suitable to take part in the study.

Since advertising on social media for participants to come forward for this study, the response has been overwhelming and very positive. Glasgow Memory Clinic relies entirely on volunteers, so we’d like to take this opportunity to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has got in touch with us. Taking part in a clinical study is completely voluntary and it’s up to you if you decide to participate. It’s generally accepted that people who participate in clinical studies have better overall outcomes. The reasons for this are thought to be the extensive tests, medical care and attention received when taking part in a clinical study.
There is no charge for attending Glasgow Memory Clinic and all medical care, tests and treatment is completely free of charge. We also offer free parking, Wi-Fi and refreshments and your travel expenses would be covered if you are screened.
