Launched in May 2015, The Scottish Business Pledge is a values-led partnership between the Scottish Government and businesses. To date, nearly 400 businesses have signed up – one of the latest companies to ‘take the pledge’ is Glasgow Memory Clinic.
To qualify for the Scottish Business Pledge, you must be paying the Living Wage or above and meeting the requirements of two other Pledge elements. Each pledge encourages progressive and sustainable business practices which in turn creates a positive approach to business from both employers and employees.
The 9 pledges include:
- Paying the living wage
- Not using exploitative zero hours contracts
- Supporting progressive workforce engagement
- Investing in youth
- Making progress on diversity and gender balance
- Committing to an innovation programme
- Pursuing international business opportunities
- Playing an active role in the community
- Committing to prompt payment
Glasgow Memory Clinic’s Chief Financial Officer, Sara White said: ‘We are delighted to be signed up to the Scottish Business Pledge with a commitment to working towards completing all 9 pledges’ in the future.
The pledge is a shared ambition of boosting productivity, competitiveness, sustainable employment, and workforce engagement and development in Scotland. We believe this voluntary code of business practice is good for our employees, our company, our suppliers and the wider business community’.
The pledge is open to all businesses in Scotland and signing up is an entirely voluntary decision. The Scottish Government, and partners such as Scottish Enterprise and Skill Development Scotland can work with and support you to sign up to the pledge.
