Volunteers – we thank you!

Volunteers – we thank you!

If you are like most people, the possibility of developing Alzheimer’s disease may terrify you. The fact is, however, that we still do not know what causes this devastating condition that affects millions of people around the world.

According to the Alzheimer’s Society, there are more than 850,000 people living with dementia in the U.K. and with an ageing population, this number is expected to rise sharply in the coming years. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, accounting for 60-80% of all cases.

Although Alzheimer’s disease typically affects people over the age of 65, it can occasionally occur in younger people. The cause of Alzheimer’s disease is not fully understood, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors. There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, and this is why more research is needed to find new treatments and therapies, but this is not possible without the support of volunteers.

At the NeuroClin Glasgow we welcome suitable volunteers who have applied to take part in a clinical study by completing a short pre-screener questionnaire on our website – just like someone’s medical history, their reasons for volunteering can be quite different.

What are the benefits of participating in a clinical trial?

For many, the hope of personal health benefit is their main or only reason for taking part. This might include getting a new drug or treatment they thought might help them; learning more about their condition; being screened (hoping either to be reassured or to get an early diagnosis); the chance of getting access to care they felt would be better or more specialised; or faster access to care. Some people added that they took part for their own interest or curiosity, whilst others are motivated in contributing to medical research, even when not necessarily benefitting directly from the clinical trial they take part in.

Volunteers who take part in clinical trials are vital to the process of improving medical care, and we are grateful to those who are able to put themselves forward to play a part in this.

Could you be the next volunteer for our research studies?

If you are interested in helping to find a cure for Alzheimer’s, please consider volunteering to participate in a current study. You do not need to choose which study, just simply complete the short pre-screener on our website and this will allow our patient liaison team to get in touch to discuss your potential suitability for a current study.

Clinical trials offer volunteers the chance to receive cutting-edge treatments before they become available to the general public. They also provide researchers with important information on how well new treatments work and how they might be improved. In addition, participating in a clinical trial can provide some peace of mind – there are many benefits of participating in a clinical trial.

We often receive feedback from volunteers who have previously taken part, that their test results have flagged other health issues, such as low thyroid levels.

Our team couldn’t carry out these studies without volunteers like you.

Every participant is essential to our success, and we appreciate your willingness to help us further our understanding of this condition. Located at Eurocentral, our clinic currently has 18,000 square feet of dedicated research space and is ideally located between Glasgow and Edinburgh, to be accessible to 3.5 million people within a one-hour drive. If you are eligible and decide to participate, we promise to treat you with the utmost respect and provide all the necessary information for you to make an informed decision.

Thank you again for your time and support – we couldn’t do it without you!
